BRETT GEHRKE


I have been working for the flying trapeze in New Paltz for 6 years. My interest in acrobatic activities started while an art student/gymnast and gymnastic assistant for the woman's gymnastic team in college. Throw in an interview to become a clown for Ringling Bros. at Madison Square Garden and my curiosity was piqued. Although I chose a different career path my interests were always in kinesthetics. Over the past thirty years I've worked in a variety of occupations in addition to being a public school teacher. I have been a gymnastic coach, studied martial arts for twenty years, a mountaineering guide as well as a rock climbing for thirty-six years.

Currently, I alpine ski and ice climb in the winter and admit my addiction to white water kayaking year round. Volunteer time as an EMT for the local ambulance squad and crewing on racing sailboats are my newest endeavors. My beliefs lead me to learn and attempt to master new activities and remaining active with trapeze is one of those many pursuits.
